Our History:
Recognizing the need for cancer awareness education in the Black community, FWAACA,
the brainchild of Bonnie Feldkamp, Bernita Flye, Connie Ford, R.N., Patrice Masbaum, and
the late Karla White, was formed in 1996. NBLIC, a national organization, was sought out for
funding and guidance on how to form an alliance.  It became our model on initiating cancer
education, prevention, and early detection to Black populations.

Our Organization:

Active Board of Directors from the medical, business, and faith-based community,
health and social service agencies, and cancer survivors.
Coalition membership of partners, cancer survivors, and others providing in-kind
contributions to programs and services.
Annual and lifetime members from businesses, nonprofit organizations, and the
community.
Affiliate of NBLIC (National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer) - NBLIC is an
outreach initiative of National Cancer Institute (NCI) which serves to transfer
knowledge regarding African American/Black cancer incidence, treatment and
prevention to the community.
Our Mission is to educate, advocate, and collaborate for the
prevention and early detection of cancer in the
African American and medically underserved communities
